Nico Hülkenberg joined Force India as a test and reserve driver in 2011. He had previously raced for Williams in 2010, but was dropped from the team at the end of the season. Hülkenberg's role at Force India was to test the team's car and provide feedback to the engineers. He also stood in for regular drivers Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta on a few occasions.
