Nikola Pašić first became Prime Minister of Serbia in 1891. He was a leading figure in Serbian politics for much of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and served as Prime Minister on several occasions. Pašić was a strong advocate for Serbian independence from the Ottoman Empire, and played a key role in the country's unification in 1918.
