Nikolai Patrushev started serving as the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia in 2008. He was appointed to this position by President Vladimir Putin and has served in this role ever since. Patrushev is a former KGB officer and has held a number of other positions in the Russian government, including Minister of Internal Affairs and Director of the Federal Security Service.
