Gennadiy Basov (1912-1984) was a Soviet scientist who shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1964 with Nikolai Basov for their development of the maser. He was born in Ulyanovsk, Russia, and studied physics at the Moscow State University. After graduating, he worked at the Lebedev Physical Institute, where he conducted research on microwaves. In 1950, he and Nikolai Basov developed the maser, a device that generates coherent microwave radiation.
