Who replaced Wellstone on the ballot in 2002?

  • Jesse Ventura

  • Amy Klobuchar

  • Rod Grams

  • Walter Mondale

Answer

Walter Mondale, the former vice president under Jimmy Carter, replaced Paul Wellstone on the ballot in the 2002 Minnesota Senate race. Wellstone, the incumbent senator, tragically died in a plane crash just 11 days before the election. Mondale, who had previously served in the Senate from 1964 to 1976, agreed to run as the Democratic candidate in order to keep the seat from going to the Republican Party.
