Kanu retired from professional football in 2012, after a 19-year career that saw him play for clubs in England, Italy, Turkey, and Nigeria. He won the Champions League with Arsenal in 1999 and 2004, and the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria in 1994 and 2006. He was also named African Footballer of the Year in 1996 and 1999.
