The Palmyrene Empire, centered in the ancient city of Palmyra in modern-day Syria, rose to prominence in the 3rd century AD under the rule of Queen Zenobia. Following the death of her husband, King Odaenathus, who had been an ally of the Roman Empire, Zenobia expanded her control over much of the Roman East, including Syria, Palestine, and Egypt.
