Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson has a PhD in Political Science. He graduated from the University of Iceland in 1976 and wrote his dissertation on the topic of "Iceland's Foreign Policy in the 1960s". After graduating, he worked as a professor of political science at the University of Iceland from 1976 to 1984. He also served as the Director of the Icelandic Institute of International Affairs from 1982 to 1984.
