In 1681, Rømer returned to Denmark after working in Paris. He had been invited to France by Jean Picard to assist in the construction of the Paris Observatory. Rømer spent several years in Paris, during which time he made significant contributions to astronomy, including the development of a new method for measuring the speed of light.
