After the overthrow of Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014, Petro Poroshenko was elected president of Ukraine in May of that year. Poroshenko had previously served as minister of foreign affairs and head of the National Bank of Ukraine. He was the founder and owner of Roshen, a Ukrainian confectionery company.
