During World War II, Olivier Messiaen was interned at Stalag VIII-A, a prisoner-of-war camp in Görlitz, Germany. Messiaen, a French composer and organist, was captured in 1940 during the German invasion of France. He spent the next two years at Stalag VIII-A, where he composed some of his most famous works, including the "Quartet for the End of Time."
