Olympe de Gouges was a French revolutionary who was executed in 1793 for her political writings. She was a supporter of the French Revolution and wrote a Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female Citizen in 1791, which called for equal rights for women. Her writings were considered subversive by the French government and she was executed by guillotine in 1793.
