Omar Sharif began his acting career in the 1950s. He made his film debut in 1954 in the Egyptian film "The Blazing Sun". He then starred in a number of other Egyptian films, including "The River" (1955), "The Tent" (1957), and "The Night of the Generous" (1960). In 1962, he made his international breakthrough with the film "Lawrence of Arabia", in which he played Sherif Ali.
