Omar Sharif, an Egyptian-born actor, lived in self-exile in Europe. After the Arab-Israeli War in 1967, Sharif's career in Hollywood was damaged by his support for the Arab cause. He moved to Europe and continued to work in European and Egyptian films. Sharif returned to the United States in 1988 to appear in the film "The Last Temptation of Christ".
