The Dardanelles Gun was an enormous cannon built in the late 19th century by the Ottoman Empire under the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz. It was designed by the British engineer Alexander Lyman Holley and was intended to protect the entrance to the Dardanelles Strait, a strategically crucial waterway connecting the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara.
