Henry Purcell (1659-1695) was a prolific English composer who was a pioneer of the Baroque era in England. He was taught by Christopher Gibbons, the son of Orlando Gibbons. Purcell is best known for his operas, including Dido and Aeneas, and his anthems, including "My God, My God, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?". He also wrote many other works for the church, the court, and Theatre.
