Orson Scott Card was born in Washington, but grew up in Utah and California. He attended Brigham Young University and later served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil. He is a prolific author of science fiction, fantasy, and young adult novels. His most famous work is the Ender's Game series.
