Answer
The Frank-Starling law of the heart states that the force of contraction of the heart is directly proportional to the length of the muscle fibers before contraction. The longer the fibers are stretched, the stronger the contraction will be. This law is named after Otto Frank and Ernest Starling, who first described it in 1918.
