Miep Gies was a Dutch resistance worker who helped hide Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis during World War II. After the family was arrested in 1944, Gies found Anne's diary and other papers and hid them for safekeeping. After the war, she returned the diary to Anne's father, Otto Frank, who published it in 1947.
