Otto IV, Holy Roman Emperor (1198–1218), was the only German king from the Welf dynasty. Otto was the son of Henry the Lion, Duke of Saxony, and Matilda of England. He was elected king of Germany in 1198, after the death of his uncle, Henry VI. Otto was crowned emperor by Pope Innocent III in 1209.
