Otto of Greece was a Bavarian prince who became King of Greece in 1832 after the Greek War of Independence. He was the son of King Ludwig I of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. Otto was educated at the University of Munich and served in the Bavarian army before becoming King of Greece. He was a popular ruler and is credited with modernizing the Greek state.
