Rank was a close colleague of Freud for 20 years. They met in 1906 and began working together in 1907. They collaborated on several projects, including the development of psychoanalysis and the establishment of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society. Rank eventually broke away from Freud in 1926, but they remained in contact until Freud's death in 1939.
