Otto Rank died on 31 October 1939 in New York City. He was an Austrian-American psychoanalyst and author. He was a close associate of Sigmund Freud and helped to develop many of his ideas. However, he later broke with Freud and developed his own theories. He is best known for his work on the importance of birth and the birth trauma.
