Ottorino Respighi was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1879. He studied violin at the Liceo Musicale di Bologna, where he also studied composition. After graduating, he moved to Rome, where he worked as a composer and conductor. He is best known for his orchestral works, including "Pines of Rome", "The Fountains of Rome", and "The Birds".
