Paddy Ashdown was a British politician who was a member of the Liberal Democrats. He served as the party's leader from 1988 to 1999, and was also a Member of Parliament (MP) for Yeovil from 1983 to 2001. Ashdown was a strong advocate of European integration and a supporter of the United Kingdom's membership in the European Union. He also played a key role in the Northern Ireland peace process.
