Padre Pio was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1999. He was a Capuchin friar who lived from 1887 to 1968. He is best known for his stigmata, which were wounds on his hands, feet, and side that corresponded to the wounds of Jesus Christ. He was also a mystic and a healer.
