Pál Schmitt was elected President of Hungary on 10 June 2010, winning 263 votes in the National Assembly. He was the candidate of the Fidesz–KDNP coalition government. Schmitt's victory was seen as a major victory for the Fidesz–KDNP coalition, as it had only a small majority in the National Assembly.
