Paul Berg received his undergraduate education at Penn State University. He graduated in 1948 with a degree in chemistry. He then went on to earn a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1952. After completing his doctorate, Berg moved to the University of California, San Francisco, where he began his research on DNA.
