Breitner scored in two World Cup finals, in 1974 and 1982. In the 1974 final, he scored the winning penalty in a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands. In the 1982 final, he scored the opening goal in a 3-1 victory over Italy. Breitner is one of only four players to have scored in two World Cup finals, along with Vavá, Pelé, and Zinedine Zidane.
