Paul Kantner was the only founding member from Jefferson Airplane to remain with the band when it became Jefferson Starship in 1974. He was also the band's primary songwriter, and wrote or co-wrote most of their songs. Kantner was known for his political activism, and often wrote songs about social and political issues.
