The answer is Copper. Paul Revere was a silversmith, but in 1792 he became the first American to successfully roll copper. Revere had learned about rolling copper in England, and he wanted to bring the process to the United States. He built a rolling mill in his foundry in Boston, and he began to produce rolled copper sheets.
