Pauli Murray was a legal scholar, writer, activist, and priest. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1910. Murray was a brilliant student and graduated from Howard University Law School in 1944. She was the first African American woman to be admitted to the bar in both New York and California. Murray was also a civil rights activist and worked to desegregate the American legal system.
