Pedro II was removed from his throne through a coup d’etat in 1889. This was done by a group of military officers and civilians who were dissatisfied with the emperor’s rule. They believed that he was too conservative and that he was not doing enough to modernize Brazil. The coup was successful and Pedro II was forced to abdicate the throne.
