Pehr Evind Svinhufvud was the Chairman of the Senate and Protector or Regent of Finland from 1917 to 1918. He was a member of the National Coalition Party and was a strong supporter of Finnish independence. He played a key role in the negotiations with Russia that led to the independence of Finland in 1917.
