Peter Garrett retired from politics after the 2013 election. He had been a member of the Australian House of Representatives for the seat of Kingsford Smith since 2004, and had served as the Minister for the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts from 2007 to 2010. He decided to retire from politics after the Labor Party lost the 2013 election.
