Peter Garrett entered politics in 2004. He was the lead singer for the rock band Midnight Oil, and he was also involved in environmental activism. He was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as a member of the Australian Labor Party, and he served as Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts from 2007 to 2010. He was also Minister for Education from 2010 to 2013.
