Answer

Peter Handke is a famous Austrian novelist, playwright, and poet who has won the Nobel Prize in Literature. In 1996, Handke returned his Georg Büchner Prize in protest against the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. He wrote a letter to the German Academy of Arts saying that he could not accept the prize in good conscience because the bombing had caused great suffering to innocent people.
