Mandelson left Parliament in 2004. He had been a Member of Parliament (MP) since 1992, representing the constituency of Hartlepool. He served in various ministerial positions under Tony Blair's Labour government, including Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. He resigned from Parliament in 2004 to become the European Commissioner for Trade.
