The Royal Society is a learned society and the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence. It was founded in 1660 and was granted a royal charter by King Charles II in 1662. Its full name is "The Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge". The Society's motto is "Nullius in verba", which means "Take nobody's word for it".
