Nicolae Rădescu, a leading Romanian Army general, was forced to resign as Premier by the Soviet Union's deputy People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs, Andrei Y. Vishinsky. This led to Petru Groza becoming Premier in 1945 and marked the beginning of the Communist regime in Romania.
