Growing up in Dublin, Phil Lynott resided with his grandparents, Elizabeth and Cecil Parris. His mother Philomena, an unmarried teenager in 1949 when he was born, left him in their care while embarking on a nursing career in England. Lynott's absentee father, Cecil Parris, was of Afro-Guyanese descent.
