What was the political scenario of Madagascar after the end of Tsiranana's term?

  • Democracy

  • Monarchy

  • Officially socialist

  • Theocratic

Answer

After Tsiranana's term ended, Madagascar became officially socialist, as a result of the socialist coup d'état of 1975. The leader of the coup, Didier Ratsiraka, was a Marxist and established a one-party state. This state lasted until 1992, when a new constitution was adopted and multi-party elections were held. The socialist regime was marked by economic stagnation and political repression.
