Phil Humber was drafted as the third overall selection in the 2004 Major League Baseball draft by the New York Mets. He was drafted out of Vanderbilt University, where he played college baseball for the Vanderbilt Commodores. Humber was a highly touted prospect, and was considered to be one of the best pitchers in the draft. He signed with the Mets for a $4.1 million signing bonus.
