Philip II of Macedon was born in Macedonia, which was a kingdom in northern Greece. His father was King Amyntas III, and his mother was Eurydice of Macedon. Philip II was a skilled military commander and he expanded the Macedonian kingdom to include most of present-day Greece. He was also a patron of the arts and literature.
