Philippe, Duke of Anjou, was the original name of Philip V, who was born in Versailles in 1683. He was the second son of King Louis XIV and his wife, Maria Theresa. Philippe was originally named Louis-Philippe but his name was changed to Philippe when he was made Duke of Anjou in 1697. Philippe became king of Spain in 1700 after the death of his childless uncle, Charles II.
