Philip V was the first king of Spain from the House of Bourbon. His father was Louis, Grand Dauphin, the eldest son of King Louis XIV of France and his wife, Maria Theresa of Austria. Louis was born in 1661 and died in 1711. He was the heir apparent to the French throne and was expected to succeed his father as king.
