Philipp Heinrich Scheidemann (1865-1939) was a German Social Democratic politician who served as the first Chancellor of the Weimar Republic from 13 February to 20 June 1919. He is best known for his declaration from the balcony of the Reichstag on 9 November 1918 that a German republic had been proclaimed.
