Philipp Scheidemann, a German politician, was one of the most influential leaders of the 1918-1919 German Revolution. He was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), and he played a key role in the establishment of the Weimar Republic. On November 9, 1918, Scheidemann proclaimed a German Republic from a window of the Reichstag building in Berlin.
