Which two classes did Bourdieu particularly focus on in his work?

  • Upper and Lower Class

  • Ruling and Intellectual Classes

  • Rich and Poor

  • Male and Female

Answer

The French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002) was particularly interested in the ruling and intellectual classes. He argued that the ruling class is able to maintain its power by controlling the means of cultural production, such as education and the media. The intellectual class, meanwhile, is able to influence the ruling class by providing it with the ideas and arguments that it needs to justify its power.
