Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel did indeed work closely together. The two scientists discovered radioactivity together in 1896. Becquerel was studying the effects of light on uranium salts, and he noticed that they emitted a type of radiation that could fog photographic plates. Curie and his wife, Marie Curie, took up the study of radioactivity and discovered two new elements, polonium and radium.
